Further update to the title lists of the podcasts

Hi everybody,

for those who have been following my alterations to the podcast site may have noticed that I have been tinkering around with the data base and the lists of titles for the paulcasts. I had thought that my list was pretty cool until I looked at my spread-sheet list and made a pivot table of the title list on the spread sheet. On the pivot table I had drop-down bars and I was wondering if I could add this functionality to my web list. I was also missing a search function which would encompass the whole table and search all columns for entries.

After quite a bit of web research I got that up and going and was really proud of myself, actually, until I had to look for the name of a song that I was not sure of. The search brought up three possible titles but I was not sure which one was the right one and opening and then listening to all the paulcasts mentioned, it was three different paulcasts, seemed a bit of a roundabout way to find the right entry. The solution was to link the music file itself to each title entry so I could immediately listen to the track and find out if it was the one I was looking for. Well, a lot of fumbling around with the data base entries for the titles later I had this also up and running. Now when you click on a title entry on the title list, this will automatically open a new tab where the song itself will be played. This way there are no long searches in the paulcasts themselves to find a particular tune and then to play it.

So, whats the next step? Now that the title list is structured as I would like it and at least I am happy with the results I will simply just have to fill the data base up with all the other paulcasts and their titles, that is the drag bit! Any suggestions for improving the list would be welcome and if you find a broken or incorrect link please do inform me.

Love to all and happy listening!

Paul

  1. Get one of your students to help with the data entry … remunerated appropriately of course!

Well done Pauli, you’re some technician to take on all these tweaks, I really like the quick listen back feature, in fact it helps me to connect songs by the same artist on different paulcasts eg. Cave.

Keep the faith, down with techno-capitalist platforms like Spotify, up with methodical madmen like Paul at Home!
