Sad news for all of the Woodstock generation and all who love the music of the time, Melanie Safka, better known as just Melanie, passed away on Tuesday, 23rd January in Nashville, Tennessee at the age of 76.
I still remember Ower’s tattered copy of The Four Sides Of Melanie back in the days at Sydney Parade Avenue and still throw my own copies of Stoneground Words and Madrugada onto the turntable every now and then, scratchy and dusty as they are.
Another one down and not too many left to go. It saddens me to see the icons of the past leave, many have left far to big a footprint for anyone else to fill in. Candles in The Wind and Lay Lady Lay will be my lullaby tonight.
